Role Purpose

The Survey Engineer is responsible for carrying out route surveys, detailed profiling, and tower spotting activities for transmission line projects. The role ensures accurate survey data collection, alignment finalization, and preparation of technical drawings to support design and construction teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Route Survey & Alignment

  • Conduct reconnaissance (Recon) surveys to identify feasible transmission line routes.
  • Study topography, terrain conditions, forest areas, road crossings, railway crossings, and water bodies while finalizing the route alignment.
  • Ensure the selected alignment minimizes Right of Way (ROW) issues and environmental impact.
  • Coordinate with engineering and design teams for final route approval.

2. Detailed Survey & Profiling

  • Carry out detailed route surveys and profiling using survey equipment such as Total Station, DGPS, GPS, and Auto Level.
  • Record coordinates, elevations, cross-sections, and terrain details along the route.
  • Prepare longitudinal profiles and survey data required for tower spotting and design.
  • Verify survey accuracy and minimize errors through proper field checks.

3. Tower Spotting & Optimization

  • Assist in tower spotting activities based on survey data and engineering design.
  • Ensure proper span length, ground clearance, and safety requirements.
  • Optimize tower locations to reduce project cost and land acquisition challenges.
  • Coordinate with design teams to finalize tower schedules and spotting drawings.

4. Data Processing & Documentation

  • Prepare survey reports, route maps, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of coordinates, survey logs, and field observations.
  • Prepare AutoCAD drawings and survey data sheets for design and project teams.
  • Ensure timely submission of survey data for project planning and execution.

5. Coordination & Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate with design engineers, project managers, and construction teams.
  • Support ROW teams in identifying land issues and route constraints.
  • Liaise with local authorities, forest departments, and landowners where required.
  • Provide technical inputs during project planning and execution stages.

6. Quality & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure survey work complies with project standards, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Follow safety protocols while conducting surveys in field conditions.
  • Ensure accuracy and reliability of collected survey data to avoid rework during construction.
