Structural Railway Engineer
Job Summary
The Structural Railway Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, inspection, and maintenance of railway-related structures such as bridges, viaducts, tunnels, stations, retaining walls, and other civil structures. The role ensures structural safety, durability, and compliance with railway standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and analyze railway structures including bridges, culverts, tunnels, platforms, and station buildings
- Prepare structural calculations, drawings, and technical reports
- Conduct site inspections, structural assessments, and condition surveys of existing railway assets
- Ensure compliance with relevant railway codes, standards, and safety regulations
- Coordinate with civil, track, signaling, and geotechnical teams
- Support construction activities and resolve site-related structural issues
- Review contractor submissions, shop drawings, and method statements
- Assist in rehabilitation, strengthening, and retrofitting of aging railway structures
- Ensure quality control and adherence to project timelines and budgets
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
Experience
- 03–05 years of experience in structural engineering
- Prior experience in railway or transportation infrastructure projects is highly desirable
Technical Skills
- Structural design software (e.g., STAAD, SAP2000, ETABS, MIDAS)
- Knowledge of railway standards (e.g., AREMA, Eurocodes, IRS, UIC, or local railway codes)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD / BIM tools (Revit preferred)
- Understanding of construction materials (concrete, steel, prestressed structures)
Work Environment
- Combination of office-based design work and on-site inspections
- May require travel to project sites and railway corridors
