Job Description
Geotechnical Engineer – Railway / Metro Projects
Experience
4 -10 years in Railway, Metro, or Linear infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and supervise geotechnical investigations including boreholes, SPT, CPT, and laboratory testing along Railway corridors.
- Interpret geotechnical data and establish design soil parameters for Railway formation and Earthworks.
- Assess subgrade strength, CBR, and formation suitability for Railway track infrastructure.
- Perform stability analysis of embankments, cuttings, and earth structures.
- Identify locations requiring ground improvement and recommend suitable treatment methods (geosynthetics, soil stabilization, stone columns, etc.).
- Review earthwork materials, borrow areas, and compaction requirements for railway embankments.
- Monitor field quality control tests including field density tests, plate load tests, and settlement monitoring.
- Prepare and review Geotechnical Investigation Reports (GIR), Geotechnical Design Reports (GDR), and technical notes.
- Provide technical support during construction for formation preparation, ground improvement, and embankment works.
- Ensure compliance with RDSO guidelines, IS codes, and project technical specifications.
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, embankment stability, and ground improvement techniques.
- Experience in Railway formation design and earthwork engineering.
- Ability to interpret geotechnical investigation data and prepare technical reports.
Software Skills:
- PLAXIS / GeoStudio / SLOPE-W (preferred)
- AutoCAD (basic)
- MS Excel
Education:
B.Tech / M.Tech in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical specialization preferred).
